
This breed is known for being hardy and well adapted to the Australian climate and terrain, making them ideal for beef farming.
Square Meaters are renowned for their excellent marbling and flavour, making them a popular choice for premium beef products. The breed is also known for its high yield of lean, value added beef product. With their placid nature and ease of handling, Square Meaters are a great option for our farm.
This makes for more tender end product.

Square Meaters are polled, medium framed cattle which were developed by Rick Pisaturo of Mandalong Park near Sydney, New South Wales in the early 1990s from a base of Murray Grey genetics. Despite their stature they have excellent muscling and perform well in steer and carcass competitions.

Cows (The Girls)
Some of our Cows at Zober Lodge are ex-show cattle and now live out their lives in a peaceful setting, birthing calves annually. We also have young Cows to maintain a good supply of beef and to keep the grass down.

Square Meaters cows have high maternal instincts and good fertility rates. They are excellent milk producers that enables high weaning yields for their calves. They have an excellent temperament that is optimal for low stress handling, giving ease of management throughout the chain of movement that improves the tenderness of the meat.

Bull (The Boy)
Mystro is the current resident bull that services the herd annually.

Javid Mystro is a hand raised pure bred Square Meaters that arrived at Zober Lodge from Orange in NSW when he was 3 years old.
​
Mysto is a very friendly and relaxed. He enjoys human company and no amount of "rounding up" by the resident Kelpie can deter him from his relaxed nature.
​
He also enjoys a bucket of apples but most of all, he likes quality time with the cows.

Sheep
And we have sheep!
As part of Zober Lodge Farm we also produce 100% grass fed, free range, antibiotic free, and growth hormone free lamb.
​
Ewes live on our "run off" block in the beautiful area of Gunns Plains.
Serviced by resident Rams, lambs are born annually and finished at Zober Lodge.
​
Succulent lamb is available for limited times each year
and will also be processed at Lapoinya Abattoirs.
Lamb is only available as a whole.
